WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese energy technique for helping stress reduction and relaxation that also enhances and promotes healing. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words; Rei, which means “Gods Wisdom, or the “Higher Power” and the second word “Ki” which refers to the “life force energy”. Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy." Reiki was discovered around 1922 in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki System of Healing. Reiki is administered by “laying of the hands” or with the hands placed above the body at specific locations over the body. Reiki can also be administered using a technique called Beaming and also by using a scanning technique called Byosen Scanning.
For those that are not comfortable with physical contact, the Reiki practitioner can use the techniques mentioned above which do not make any physical contact.
The premise or idea behind Reiki is that Reiki is an unseen “life force energy” that flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If ones “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick, tired or become stressed, and if the “life force energy” is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Reiki treats the whole person; body, emotions, mind and spirit. There are many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that can be used by everyone. Reiki has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady, creating a beneficial effect and experience. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. Reiki has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and facilitate Reiki. Reiki is also beneficial for your pets and animals.
At no time should a person substitute Reiki for their doctor’s advice and or treatment, or any medical professional opinion or care. Reiki is and has been used for adjunctive use and in conjunction with other therapies when ill. Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment.
